Following this 4 easy steps you can start yourself a nice little blog that can turn into something big (Like, really big)
- Find your niche
- Find yourself a domain name
- Get your hosting
- Set up your theme
Let’s get into it!
This post may have affiliate links which i make small amount of commission when you purchase the product/service. I don’t recommend products/services that i don’t trust or believe. For more information, you can read my disclosure.
1.Find Your Niche
Well, obviously you need to write about something. Before doing anything you will need to find yourself a niche. You can write about travel, food, fitness, DIY and many more. Or you can write about all of them and call it a lifestyle blog like I do. Genius blogging hacks, right? #smartypants
2. Find Yourself a Domain Name
Domain name is what you and other people will call your blog. Like my domain name, klosmo. But before you commit to any name the key here is that it should be a simple name so that people can remember. By simple I don’t mean just a short name. A rather long name that is related to your niche is easy to remember, as well.
You can get your domain free if you buy your hosting from Bluehost for just $3.95/month.
You can get your free domain from Bluehost by simply clicking here. I will be explaining how you can get your domain name in the next step.

3. Get Your Hosting
Although there is a couple of free blogging platforms, I don’t really recommend using them since they can easily delete your blog for any reason. Plus, if you’re thinking about taking your blogging adventure into a professional level, WordPress is always the way to go. It is very flexible and with its plugins you can do almost anything you want with your blog. I won’t be explaining how to start a free blog using those free platforms because I simply don’t have any experience with them. I have started a couple of blogs using WordPress, so I will be going through the steps I took starting those blogs.
To be able to have a WordPress blog, you first need hosting. You can think of hosting as the space you take on the internet. For you to be able to “put” stuff on the internet, you need your “rented” space. There are several hosting services on the internet but i recommend using Bluehost. It’s easy to setup and it’s SUPER affordable. You can start your blog for as low as $3.95/month in just 20 minutes.
Let’s dive into the details of how you can start a blog with screenshots:
Go to Bluehost website and click the green button “Get Started Now”
Select your plan. The basic plan will most probably cover what you want to do with your blog.
Next step, you need to enter your personal details. This step is pretty self-explanatory.
Done! Now you have access to Cpanel which is the panel you’re going to be using to control your blog. When you log in to Cpanel, it will ask you if you want Bluehost to do the WordPress installation or not. But unfortunately it’s not free. Lucky, you can install wordpress yourself at no cost and it’s super easy.
- There should be a blue Install WordPress icon on your Cpanel. Click that.
- The next page will ask you to fill some more options like your WordPress admin name and password. Never go for “admin” as an admin name. It’s VERY easy to guess therefore it’s not secure at all.
- Once you click install, WordPress will get installed automatically. This sometimes takes a couple of minutes depending your internet speed but shouldn’t take ages.
- Then you will be redirected to a website where you need to enter your admin name and password to log in.
Now you’ve created your website. The next step is to customise how it looks.
3. Choose Your Theme
Once you you’re logged in, you will see your dashboard where you can customize your blog. To choose a theme for your blog, you will need to find Appearance -> Themes on the left hand side of your dashboard.
Find the add new button to browse all themes
After you choose your theme and activate it, you’re good to go! Your blog is ready for you to start blogging right away!
